For the third time this month, Pennsylvania has recorded more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases.

HARRISBURG, PA — For the third time this month, Pennsylvania has recorded more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Tuesday confirmed 1,027 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 102,765.
The increases were most drastic in Philadelphia and Allegheny counties. Allegheny reported an increase of 139 cases and Philadelphia had 168 new cases.

Twenty new deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the statewide death toll to 7,038.
New cases dipped in early to mid June, following a peak in late April. But since July, cases statewide have been increasing. Authorities have said they believe the spread is largely among young adults who are traveling, visiting bars, and not adhering to social distancing guidelines.

One week ago, Gov. Tom Wolf announced additional restrictions intended to slow the spread of the virus. Those restrictions included further measures to reduce indoor restaurant capacity, as well as limiting alcohol sales at bars to those who are dining only.
While the number of new cases are below the peak in April, this marks the third day this month that more than 1,000 coronavirus cases were reported. On July 17, there were 1,032 new cases and on July 10, there were 1,009 new cases.
As of Tuesday morning, the United States has topped 3.8 million confirmed cases and surpassed 141,000 deaths, according to a Johns Hopkins University tally.
However, in new data released Tuesday, the CDC says the number of Americans infected with the coronavirus is anywhere from two to 13 times higher than the reported rates for those regions. The findings suggest that large numbers of people who did not have symptoms or did not seek medical care may have kept the virus circulating in their communities.
Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Fauci recently told the Philadelphia-based American Association for Cancer Research that there is "essentially no end in sight" to the coronavirus pandemic, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
"Here we are in mid-July with close to 14 million cases globally and 580-plus-thousand deaths so far with essentially no end in sight," he said in a virtual meeting with the association. "The United States has been hit harder than any country in the world with the most cases, 3.4 million now, and the most deaths at about 136,000."
