Retail Theft Charges Filed Against 2: Warrington Crime Report

Police say a woman attempted to walk out of the store with more than $600 in merchandise and wearing a stolen pair of shoes.

WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The Warrington Township Police Department made two arrests for retail theft on May 23:

May 23

  • Police responded to the Walmart store for a report of a retail theft in progress after a woman was observed committing a theft. The suspect was later identified as a 19-year-old from Blue Bell. According to the store's loss prevention personnel, the woman selected multiple items and proceeded to the self-checkout area. She paid $147.68 for a portion of the merchandise but failed to pay for an additional $611.40 worth of items. When she exited the store, she was stopped by officers. During the encounter, the woman falsely claimed to be a minor under the age of 18. She also provided police with a false date of birth, including an incorrect year. Officers observed that she was wearing a new pair of shoes and that her slippers were found discarded inside the store. The woman was placed under arrest and charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property and providing false ID to law enforcement. She was transported to police headquarters where she was processed and later released.
  • Police responded to Target in March for a reported retail theft. Loss Prevention personnel reported that a man selected merchandise valued at $542.92, placed it in a shopping cart, and exited the store without paying. The suspect was escorted to the Loss Prevention office, where he provided identification. Before the arrival of police, the man said he could no longer wait and left the store. Subsequent investigation revealed that the individual who provided identification was not the actual suspect. Police said the real identity of the suspect was determined to be a 29-year-old man from Philadelphia. A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest. On May 23, he was taken into custody by Middletown Township Police. He was transported to the Warrington Police Department for processing and was arraigned by Judge Marriott, who set bail at $20,000 unsecured. During processing, it was discovered that the man had an active warrant for a probation violation out of Philadelphia. Warrington officers made multiple attempts to contact Philadelphia Probation but were unsuccessful. As a result, and due to the unsecured bail, the man was released.
