Alleged Supermarket Wallet Thief Charged, Plumstead Police Say

A man police say stole a woman's wallet as she shopped at the Giant supermarket in Plumstead has been arrested and charged.

PLUMSTEAD TOWNSHIP, PA —A man police say stole a woman's wallet last month as she shopped at the Giant supermarket in Plumstead has been arrested and charged.

George Ortiz,59, was taken into custody Friday, Plumstead Township police said. He was located in Allentown and transported back to Bucks County, where he was arraigned.

In late November, police released surveillance footage from the incident, asking for tips to locate a suspect who stole a 70-year-old woman's wallet from her purse as she shopped at the store on Swamp Road.

The woman reported the theft the morning of Nov. 21.The wallet contained credit cards, her ID, and $70.

Ortiz's bail was set at 10 percent of $50,000. He was sent to Bucks County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17, court records show.
