Borough To Close Part Of Main Street For Outdoor Shopping, Dining
Street closures are planned July 24 and 25. The goal is to give Doylestown businesses more space for outdoor dining and sales.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Doylestown Borough will continue an initiative that closes streets to vehicular traffic in an effort to draw shoppers and diners into town. This Friday and Saturday, Main Street between State and Court streets will be closed to traffic from 5 to 11 p.m.
The latest plan comes after a portion of W. State Street was shut to traffic for the same reason a few days in June. Borough officials said the success of the program last month has prompted them to continue the effort.
"Both weekends saw an increase of traffic and support of local businesses on a section of W. State Street, which was lined with tables and decorative plantings," the borough said in a news release announcing the continuation of the program. The borough said in June, businesses and customers cooperated "seamlessly to ensure a safe atmosphere was maintained."

Pedestrians should wear masks when not eating and should follow social distancing guidelines.
"Social distancing remains a critical part of our fight against the spread of COVID-19 and will continue to be monitored as the pedestrian zones move forward," the borough said in its announcement. "It is also recognized that our small businesses need support now more than ever. Together we are working to create a safe environment and opportunities to support our neighbors."

Local officials are assessing additional pedestrian zones as a way to continue to help increase business for local stores and restaurants.
Temporary detours will be in place during the closures. Free parking will be available at the county garage on Broad and Union. There will be a small fee for parking in the other county facility on Broad and Court streets.
