Bucks County Police Warn Residents About Distraction Burglaries

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Several police departments in Bucks County are warning residents about a string of distraction burglaries. In each of four related burglaries throughout the area Saturday, two men posing as electrical workers tried to enter residents’ homes.

An elderly couple in Plumstead Township reported an attempted burglary around 11 a.m. Saturday at their home in the 5200 block of Point Pleasant Pike, according to police.

Nothing was stolen from the home in that attempted burglary, but the same men are suspected in a successful distraction burglary several hours later in Bedminster Township.

Around 3:40 p.m. Saturday, a homeowner in the 3200 block of Bedminster Road reported a man identifying himself as a PECO employee said he was contracted to install generators at properties in the area. While the resident walked the man to the back of the home, a second burglar stole cash from inside, police said.

They are also suspected in similar distraction burglaries reported Saturday in Easton and Buckingham Township, in which “a large amount” of money was stolen from a home in the 2400 block of Sugar Bottom Road, according to police.

Police described the two burglars as white men of “average height” who were driving a white utility truck with no markings. One of the men is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and clean shaven, according to police.

All PECO employees and contractors carry ID badges with their names and photos. The company recommends residents ask for photo ID through a window and never open their doors to someone they do not recognize.

PECO employees will never call residents for bill payment in cash or with a prepaid credit card, according to the company.

Police are asking anyone who has information about the two men or the truck to call their local department.
