Cat Cafe Finds ‘Purrfect’ Home On Swamp Road In Doylestown

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Doylestown’s only cat cafe is enjoying its new digs on Swamp Road just around the corner from its former location on Old Easton Road.
Eilene Kramer joined employees and friends in cutting the ribbon on the new home of MeWow Cafe on July 9 at the former site of Bucks County Carpet and Floor next to the Cross Keys Diner.

“I thought people really needed this,” said Kramer, who opened her cat cafe six years ago. “Everything today is so stressful and fast-paced. Here, you can take 30 minutes and just relax, smile and enjoy yourself in the company of kitties.”
With this most recent move, she’s expanded her cafe from 500-square-feet to 4,000-square-feet giving her cats and her customers and employees plenty of room to stretch and breath.

“We now have an entire event space so we can host bridal showers, corporate events. Our capacity limit went from 35 to 105 so we can really do some nice things here,” said Kramer. “We now have a cuddle room, which will be free for use by care professionals.

“We can also do more for the community here,” Kramer added. “We will be having a lot more community events. That was such a huge goal. It’s not just people coming in and using the cats for comfort, but to learn about cats and to learn that each is a unique little person.”
Kramer, a former substitute teacher at the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, set out seven years ago to bring Bucks County its first cat cafe after her daughter, Karla, suggested the idea.
“She said to me, ‘Why don’t you open a cat cafe,'” said Kramer. “At the time I had no idea what a cat cafe was, but on further examination, I liked it."
The cafe is separated into several distinct areas – the cafe and retail store, an Alley Room filled with more energetic cats and a Cuddle Room with the older cats.
“Visitors to the cafe will find amazing cats and they can just expect to be happy one half hour at a time,” said Kramer.
Inside the cafe, customers can shop for cat-related merchandise and enjoy a ‘purrfect’ mix of locally-sourced baked good, coffee and tea, all while watching the cats play in the alley.
Sitting inside the alley, Kramer was surrounded by kittens scampering and playing. One of them, obviously tuckered out by all the extra attention, found a peaceful spot to fall asleep.
“I love this,” she said. “These guys can be rambunctious and playful. And then they can be super quiet and sleeping in your lap. There’s just a happy factor. I mean, how can you not smile watching them run around and playing?
“I want to see everyone who enters this room happy, our cats get great homes and our customers have a great experience,” said Kramer. “That’s my motivation.”
