Cause Of Buckingham House Explosion Released

Officials investigating the Wednesday house explosion that leveled a Buckingham Township home have released their findings.

BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Authorities have determined that a propane leak caused an explosion that destroyed a house Wednesday in Buckingham Township.

According to information following an investigation by the Buckingham Fire Marshal and the Buckingham Police Detectives, the explosion was caused by an accidental ignition of a propane leak in the home's basement.

None of the four family members were home at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.

The explosion occurred shortly before 10 a.m. at a home along the 4300 block of Biddeford Circle, which is located off Carversville Road in the Doylestown section of the township.

Midway Fire Company responded, and found the home completely destroyed with a "large debris field" surrounding it, police said.

There was no fire as a result of the explosion, which was heard miles away.

The explosion was investigated by Buckingham Fire Marshal with the assistance of the Philadelphia Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Arson and Explosives Task Force and the Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Meanwhile, the community has mobilized to launch an online fundraiser for the family, who is now displaced as a result of the explosion. As of Thursday afternoon, the campaign has raised $70,000.
