Central Bucks Teachers To Join Nationwide 'Walk-In'

DOYLESTOWN, PA — The Central Bucks Education Association will participate in a nationwide "Walk-In" on Wednesday organized by the National Education Association (NEA) to "protect students and families" from federal cuts to education.
The NEA is calling for nationwide walk-ins to "protect public education and students, with a focus on supporting students with disabilities and those from low-income families."
During the walk-ins, teachers will gather before the school day begins, listen to a few remarks, and then walk into their schools together in a show of unity, according to the NEA website.

In Central Bucks, the Central Bucks Education Association, which represents the district's professional staff members, is planning organized walk-ins at each Central Bucks school that will take place before the contractual workday begins, according to a letter sent to the community by Superintendent Steven Yanni.
"When events like this take place, there is often a desire for some parents/guardians and community members to support the effort," wrote Yanni. Because the "safety of our students and staff is paramount, only school staff will be permitted on school property during the times the walk-ins are taking place.

"Participating parents/guardians and community members will not be permitted on school property, nor will they be able to enter any of our district schools or buildings," said Yanni. "Further, participants may not block access to or from district property. Non-compliance will be referred immediately to the local police departments."
