DOYLESTOWN, PA — Two local business owners will ring in the new year by celebrating the grand opening of their new location in downtown Doylestown.

Seedlings & Sprouts, a children's clothing boutique, will open its doors at 21 E. State St. at 10 a.m., Sat., Jan. 2.

When the Mercantile at Doylestown opened earlier this year, Briana Lurye and her business partner, Jacque Carroll, saw an opportunity. The pair had already been printing and designing clothes and felt it was time to utilize a physical space to showcase their products.

"We got really great feedback at the Mercantile," Lurye said. "We took the idea and just ran with it."

The experiment was so successful that the pair is moving into their own brick-and-mortar space on East State Street that was formerly occupied by Monkey's Uncle until the business moved to a bigger location on South Main Street earlier this year.

Lurye and Carroll have been close friends since they attended New Hope-Solebury High School together, but it wasn't until recently that the pair started printing children's gear for Monkey's Uncle and other local businesses. When the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018, they started printing gear "on a whim" and sold it out of the back of their cars.

The store will offer books, toys, clothing and gifts specialized for children, with an emphasis on localizing the merchandise. Lurye and Carroll design a lot of their own apparel and have recruited Samantha Yost, owner of Sew On Little One, to sew their products.

"We're not trying to bring in any big brands," Lurye said.

While running a business during a pandemic might seem daunting, Lurye appears to be up to the task.

"Anything right now is a little scary, but I think at the same time we feel there is such a need for it," Lurye said. "Doylestown being our town, we felt like we could do it."

Store hours are 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday and Monday by appointment only.
