"Code Blue" Extended In Bucks County Through January 23

Lower, Central and Upper Bucks County Shelters are open nightly through January 23.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — A Code Blue declaration is in effect for Bucks County through Tuesday, January 23 in response to a stretch of extreme cold.

Shelters in Upper, Central and Lower Bucks are set to open by 8:30 p.m. nightly through Tuesday. The declaration has been in effect since Sunday.

The following shelters have been activated for this Code Blue event:

  • Upper Bucks – Quakertown Masonic Lodge (First Floor), 501 West Broad Street, Quakertown. The shelter is operated by Upper Bucks Code Blue.
  • Central Bucks – Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5194 Cold Spring Creamery Road, Buckingham. Transportation is available. The shelter is operated by Coalition to Shelter & Support the Homeless (CSSH).
  • Lower Bucks –Woodside Church, 1667 Edgewood Road, Lower Makefield. The shelter is operated by Advocates for Homeless & Those in Need (AHTN).

The Code Blue Shelters are independently operated by non-profit organizations and open when the temperature is 26 degrees or below in addition to other individual criteria; opening is dependent on having enough volunteers.

The county issues a “Code Blue” declaration when temperatures are forecast to drop below 20 degrees for two or more consecutive days. A “Code Blue” may be called amid higher temperatures, as consideration is also given to wind chill, precipitation, and other circumstances.
