DOYLESTOWN, PA — The County Theater is making "excellent progress" on the major addition and renovation project that began last month, representatives said in an update this week.

Removal of the adjacent building is finished and the lot is fully cleared. Plus, the basement and foundation excavation is done.

"The next step is to pour the concrete footers and basement floors," the Theater's update said.

All surrounding businesses and the theater itself are open during construction, which started Jan. 13 with the demolition of the former Poor Richard's building. There was a late attempt by preservationists to salvage the building, however, its demolition moved forward.

When the $4.5 million project is complete, the theater will boast a new auditorium, lobby, and first-floor restrooms. You can see the project plans here.

According to the current project timeline, the theater expects to open its new addition by the end of the year. Once the new addition debuts, the historic theater will be renovated.
