Doylestown-Area Police Launching Aggressive Driving Crackdown
Police in Doylestown, Buckingham, and beyond will be upping enforcement of red-light running, tailgating, distracted driving, etc.
DOYLESTOWN, PA — Police in Doylestown and nearby communities are among 60 departments in the Philadelphia area that will launch a month-long, coordinated aggressive-driving enforcement campaign starting this week.
The campaign starts Wednesday, July 29 and goes through Aug. 23.
Area departments that are participating include: Doylestown Township; Central Bucks Regional Police; Buckingham Township, Plumstead Township, Warrington Township, New Britain Township, Hilltown Township; and Dublin Borough.

The goal is to decrease crashes, injuries, and deaths on roadways, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
The enforcement wave will focus on red light running, tailgating, pedestrian safety and heavy truck violations. Drivers exhibiting other aggressive actions or unsafe behaviors such as speeding or distracted driving may also be cited, according to officials.

According to 2019 PennDOT data, there were 1,546 aggressive-driving related crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
Municipal police agencies that participated in last year’s campaign made 39,141 aggressive-driving related contacts statewide, which included citing 22,353 drivers for speeding, and 3,077 citations for failure to stop for red lights and stop signs.
The enforcement is a part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project and is funded by the PennDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
