Doylestown Hospital Earns A Grade For Safety In Newest Ranking

Doylestown Hospital earned its eighth consecutive 'A' grade for patient safety from the nonprofit Leapfrog Group.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Doylestown Hospital earned its eighth consecutive ‘A’ grade for patient safety from the nonprofit Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization that assesses hospital safety.

The local hospital received the newest ranking in the spring 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which were released Thursday. The Safety Grade is a letter grade assigned to all general hospitals across the country and updated every six months — in Spring and Fall — assessing how well the hospital prevents medical errors and other harms to patients.

“The safety of our patients and our staff – especially now during a pandemic – is a continuous exercise in quality improvement,” said Scott Levy, MD, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.

“Now more than ever, all the work and sustained efforts in the pursuit of quality have resulted in our ability to implement change and respond to the challenges associated with this pandemic.”

The grades were developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, according to the Leapfrog Group. It uses as many as 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year.

“As the Nation copes with a challenging pandemic, our gratitude extends to hospital leadership and health care workers everywhere for their tremendous dedication,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We hope this ‘A’ helps to thank the people who work and volunteer for Doylestown Hospital. They are role models in putting patients first, and their service has been extraordinary in our country’s time of need."

The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and the results are free for the public to view.
