Doylestown Hospital Ranked 13th Best In PA By U.S. News

Doylestown Hospital has been ranked among the best hospitals in Pennsylvania by U.S. News.

PENNSYLVANIA — U.S. News & World Report has ranked Doylestown Hospital among the best in Pennsylvania. The publication, which released its latest rankings of the country's best hospitals, has ranked Doylestown Hospital 13th in Pennsylvania.

It was one of two Bucks County hospitals ranked in Pennsylvania. St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne was ranked 17th.

In total, 26 Pennsylvania hospitals made the state’s best hospitals list.

Doyelstown Hospital was rated high performing in six adult procedures and conditions, including three cardiology and heart conditions, two orthopedic conditions, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

St. Mary Medical Center, the other Bucks County hospital ranked, was rated high performing in four adult procedures and conditions, including heart failure, two orthopedic conditions, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian was the top-ranked hospital in the state and the only in Pennsylvania that made U.S. News' Honor Roll of the top 20.

The data used is pre-pandemic, so the coronavirus's impact on hospitals nationwide is not shown in the latest rankings.

“The pandemic has altered, perhaps permanently, how patients get care and from whom they get it. Amid the disruption, we are steadfastly committed to providing the public with authoritative data for comparing hospital quality,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “No hospital’s clinical team came through this unprecedented health crisis unscathed.”

The 16 specialties that hospitals were ranked for are: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, psychiatry, pulmonology and lung surgery, rehabilitation, rheumatology and urology.

Twelve of the specialty rankings — which cover categories such as cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology and nephrology — are determined mostly by data; the other four specialties — ophthalmology, psychiatry, rehabilitation and rheumatology — are determined entirely by expert opinion, U.S. News said.
