Doylestown's Longest Running Variety Show Opens Show Next Week

Opening night for the County Seat Players is one week away, and the former State Street Players are tightening up skits and songs to make their combined audience of 1,000 smile, laugh, and sing along.

Eric Nitschke, the director of this year’s production, shared that this year’s show will take viewers on a whimsical journey from Mount Olympus and Disco through a wacky yoga class and a holiday hero convention.

"The audience will recognize a variety of songs spanning from the past to the present, along with some classic TV and movie scenes they might not have expected," he said, noting that the production features an exciting mix of song-and-dance routines blended with comedy sketches, rich in physical and satirical humor.

For each of the past 44 years, more than 100 Doylestown-area residents have written, produced, and performed the annual show, as well as built their own sets and constructed the stage itself. The group spends a total of six months in production, from initial writing in October until the show dates.

Several members have been involved with the show for all 44 prior productions. Long-time members credit the group's longevity to the creativity and enthusiasm of its members, who represent many careers and backgrounds.

Businesses around Doylestown and the surrounding areas can gain visibility from the nearly 1,000 total audience attendees by advertising in the show program or donating goods and services for raffle baskets to be raffled off at each of the six shows.
