Dramatic Video Shows Hilltown Police Rescue Horse In 2-Alarm Fire

HILLTOWN, PA — Hilltown Township Police have released dramatic footage of a two-alarm barn fire and horse rescue that occurred last week.

According to police, the barn fire occurred along the 1500 block of Hilltown Pike the morning of July 23.

Officers arrived to the scene and saw a large barn with heavy smoke and fire.

Witnesses at the scene said there was a horse inside of the barn. Without hesitation, the video shows, Officers Matthew Reiss and Kristian Hanus ran into the barn and rescued the animal with assistance from a farm worker. The horse, who appears frightened and scared to move, was pulled from the stall as flames began to overtake the barn.

The Hilltown Fire Company and several other area companies responded shortly after the horse was safely removed from the barn. At that point the building was fully engulfed in flames, police said.

In total, 15 fire companies and six EMS units from Bucks and Montgomery Counties responded to the fire. Eight people required medical attention at the scene, and four of those patients were transported to area hospitals.

Both officers also suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office and Hilltown Police.
