Why are you seeking elective office?
To continue to represent the interests of the people of the 143rd District, to advocate for excellence in all levels education, to protect the environment and address climate change, and to support the needs of our families for gainful employment and appropriate social support.
The single most pressing issue facing our state/nation is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
The government in our state and our nation is too frequently crippled by partisanship, incivility, and indifference to the actual needs of the people we are elected to represent. In my district I strive to actively engage in problem solving and working with the community and my contacts in Harrisburg in order to help individuals, address issues, and support communities with grants. In Harrisburg I work with like-minded partners on both sides of the aisle to establish good policies and pass good legislation.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I do not yet know what my opponent's positions or qualifications are. I have introduced and am working to pass 3 bills ("Firearms Safety Training Package," "Bottle and Can Deposit Program," and "Safe Drinking Water Act"). I will be introducing 3 bills in the next weeks ("Degree With A Guarantee," "Upskirting: Justice for Children Victimized in Schools and Elsewhere," "Emergency Services in State Forests and Parks." I am working with Upper Bucks County Technical School and community partners to assist bringing Fire Safety I and EMT training to UBCTS. Details are available on my website.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform
I support families and women: women's reproductive rights, control of prescription drug prices, paid family & medical leave, Affordable Care Act, gradual increase in minimum wage, and support of the social safety net
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
My 30 year career as a community college educator has given me a clear-sighted understanding of the values, priorities, problems and needs of the people whom I now represent.
The best advice ever shared with me was …
Live by your values in everything you do.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I have learned a tremendous amount from people in the district I have met. I welcome your insights and feedback. Three of my bills are directly inspired by local concerns.
