Propane Leak May Have Caused Buckingham House Explosion: Police

A Buckingham house explosion is under investigation. No one was injured, but the house was completely destroyed Tuesday.

BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — An explosion that leveled a house Tuesday morning in Buckingham Township may have been a result of a propane leak, authorities said.

The explosion happened around 10 a.m. along the 4300 block of Biddeford Circle, which is located off Carversville Road in the Doylestown section of the township.

No residents were in the home at the time of the explosion, and no injuries were reported, police said.

The area does not have natural gas service. Electricity has been cut off by PECO for the investigation.

The neighborhood is expected to get power back later Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Federal investigators called to the scene

The Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office has called the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to the scene.

ATF Special Agent Charlene Hennessy tells Patch the agency will be assisting with the scene investigation to determine the origin and cause of the explosion.

The investigation is being led by the Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office.

The ATF "has a cadre of resources to assist with these types of scenes such as certified explosives specialists, certified fire investigators and explosive detection canines and their handlers," Hennessy said.

Loud boom

In a post on the Doylestown Patch, neighbors reported hearing a loud boom.

The blast was felt as far as two miles away, NBC10 reported.

Action News reporter Dan Patrick tweeted a photo of the home, which was destroyed from the blast.
