Overnight Storms Ravage Eastern PA, 100K Lose Power

Overnight storms ripped through the region, leaving more than 100,000 in the Philadelphia region without power. Here's the latest:

EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Overnight storms ripped through Eastern Pennsylvania, leaving more than 100,000 PECO customers in the Philadelphia region without power. Additionally, some school closures have been announced, SEPTA delays are in place, and drivers may experience road closures due to downed trees.

The storm moved through late Thursday, with a tornado warning issued in parts of the area shortly before midnight.

The National Weather Service has not yet said if a tornado actually materialized. Storm survey teams are currently investigating in Bucks and Delaware counties.

"A storm survey team has been sent to investigate the area of storm damage in western Delaware and Bucks Counties in PA. We will have a report on their findings later this afternoon. Please continue to pass along any other reports of severe weather you encounter," the agency tweeted Friday morning.

SCHOOL CLOSURES

As a result of the power outages, several area schools are closed, including three schools in the Central Bucks School District (CB West, CB South and Bridge Valley Elementary), Germantown Academy, and the School District of Springfield Township, the Upper Dublin School District and the Wissahickon School District. POWER OUTAGES

Power outages were widespread across the region. As of 7:30 a.m., PECO reported more 102,000 outages, including 40,000 in Bucks County, more than 32,000 in Montgomery County, nearly 20,000 in Chester County, and more than 11,000 in Delaware County.

By 11 a.m., outages had been reduced to 72,000, according to information from PECO.

Warminster was hit particularly hard. More than 7,000 people were without power Friday morning. Thousand of outages are ongoing in multiple communities, including in Northampton, Ambler, Solebury, Doylestown, Jenkintown, Springfield and more.

PUBLIC TRANSIT

SEPTA is reporting several delays and line disruptions.

All regional rail riders can expect delays of up to 40 minutes due to weather-related issues, SEPTA said. Passengers also may expect overcrowded conditions and skipped stations "until further notice."

Additionally, Warminster train service and service between Doylestown and Colmar, and there is n bus service in both directions between Willow Grove Mall and Doylestown.
