PennDOT Examines Speeding on County Line Road In Warrington

WARRINGTON, PA — In response to concerns from local officials, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is conducting a speeding study of County Line Road in Warrington Township.

At Tuesday's meeting of the township Board of Supervisors, several residents raised concerns over speeding on a one-mile stretch of the roadway that expands to five lanes.

"Since this has opened up into a five-lane road, we basically have a superhighway in front of our residents and businesses without proper access to turning lanes," said Mike Starner, a township resident.

Township Manager Barry Luber said he recently spoke with a PennDOT official who confirmed that the state agency is conducting a speed study of that road, the results of which have not yet been released. He noted that the township recently partnered with Montgomery Township to increase speeding enforcement on County Line Road.

"They've written tickets, it doesn't solve the problem, but it hopefully helps a little bit," Luber said.

Supervisor Chair Fred Gaines said the township is limited in what it can do to address speeding on the roadway without prior approval from PennDOT.

"It's great to have a road that you can travel on rapidly, but not at the risk of people getting seriously injured or killed," Gaines said.

Gaines said the township is also reviewing plans by developer Walnut Creek Acquisitions to construct 22 single-family detached homes on the property known as Laurel Crossing at 3501 County Line Road.

A public hearing on that project will be held at the township supervisors' meeting Tuesday, July 27, at 7 p.m. All board meetings are held in-person at the Warrington Township Administration Building, 852 Easton Rd, and virtually through Zoom.
