Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Dr. David Bozak (David Bozak, DO) of Pennsylvania Pain & Spine Institute.
Patch: How long have you been in the medical/healthcare field?
Dr. David Bozak: I finished my residency in 2010, and am going on 13 years in the medical field practicing in orthopedics and physician medicine & rehabilitation.
Patch: What attracted you to the medical/healthcare field and how did you get started?
Bozak: I was interested in the medical/healthcare field because of the fact that medicine is challenging and it is constantly evolving. The field is also very rewarding as it involves working with and helping people in the community.
Patch: What kind of medicine/services do you or your organization/practice specialize in?
Bozak: At Pennsylvania Pain and Spine, we specialize in treating a variety of pain conditions from head to toe. Our goal is treating patients’ pain at the source and getting them feeling better so that they can get back to doing the things that they love.
Patch: How do you and your practice stay up-to-date with healthcare advancements?
Bozak: Our team regularly attends pain conferences and learn from different industry representatives about the latest procedures and treatment options for pain. We are constantly adding options to our array of treatments that we feel could help the patients we serve.
Patch: What parts of your job do you find most challenging?
Bozak: Pain itself is a very complicated thing, with a variety of factors that can contribute to it. It is unique to each patient as well which can present different challenges which overall make the job more interesting and satisfying.
Patch: What’s your favorite thing about being a doctor/healthcare professional?
Bozak: I love when patients come back in and tell me how they were able to get back to doing something they love like swimming, gardening, biking, playing with their children/grandchildren, etc. and how happy that makes them. It is truly rewarding to know that I was able to help them get back to the life the wanted.
Patch: How does your training, experience and specialties in your field distinguish you from others in your profession?
Bozak: In comparison to a lot of other medical specialties, we are very procedure oriented. This is great because we have tools we can use to improve patients' lives beyond just medications, while also not requiring a big surgery that could cause other issues down the line. We believe in treating patients via minimally invasive treatments, and want to treat their pain at the source along with their symptoms.
Patch: What does a typical day on the job look like for you?
Bozak: I see patients all day long! There can be a variety of appointment types such as performing procedures, treatments and also talking to patients in the clinic about their pain and treatment options to come up with the best game plan for their journey.
Patch: How can Patch readers learn more about your practice?
