Plumstead Police Chief Appointed Township's First Director Of Public Safety
The supervisors created the role to reflect the township's commitment to delivering coordinated, sustainable, and high-quality public safety

PLUMSTEAD TOWNSHIP, PA — Plumstead Police Chief David Mettin has been appointed the township's first director of public safety.
In the newly-created role, the chief will oversee the operations of the police department and serve as the township’s liaison to its volunteer fire and EMS services.
The supervisors created the role to reflect the township’s commitment to delivering coordinated, sustainable, and high-quality public safety services for the community.

The position was established to strengthen interdepartmental coordination, ensure the 24/7/365 delivery of emergency services, and promote long-term sustainability across all public safety functions.
“Chief Mettin is uniquely positioned to lead this effort. He has extensive career experience in public safety that includes a record of navigating and implementing change, developing organizational structure, while maintaining a high level of service,” said Stacey Mulholland, township manager. “This appointment marks an important step forward in enhancing the township’s ability to protect lives and property, and to respond effectively to the needs of our community.”

As Director of Public Safety, Chief Mettin will be responsible for facilitating a 21st-century Fire and Rescue Service program in accordance with the second-class township code. His duties include maintaining the efficient operation of the police department, ensuring 24/7/365 coverage and coordination between fire and EMS services, promoting equipment readiness, seeking out state and federal grant funding, and building strong partnerships with local, county, and state public safety agencies.
He will also work collaboratively with the township's Fire Marshall and Emergency Management Coordinator, Jeff Gouldey.
The township’s overarching goal is to preserve public safety, prevent crime, and ensure residents and visitors alike are protected by a dependable and responsive 24/7/365 emergency services system.
