Police Boosting DUI Patrols During Thanksgiving Holiday In Bucks Co.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Thanksgiving Eve and the upcoming weekend are a time for family, friends, and celebration. However, they also bring an increase in impaired driving incidents.

The Pennsylvania State Police and local police departments will be increasing enforcement throughout Bucks County over the Thanksgiving holiday for seatbelt use and impaired and distracted driving.

"Buzzed driving is drunk driving," said the Bucks County District Attorney's office in a public service announcement in advance of the holiday. "Drunk driving crashes spike during the long holiday. If you plan to drink, you must plan for a sober ride home before you start. Don't risk a life - take keys from impaired friends. Urge all residents to prioritize safety and responsible decision-making."

Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said the law is clear: Buzzed driving is drunk driving.

"Even a 'little buzz' significantly impairs your ability to operate a vehicle safely. If you choose to drive while impaired, you face severe legal penalties, including arrest, license suspension, substantial fines, and potential jail time. More importantly, you risk causing irreversible harm or death to yourself and innocent people in our community," she said.

The DA's office is advising everyone planning to celebrate on Thanksgiving and throughout the weekend to make a safety plan now:

• Designate a sober driver before the celebration begins.
• Utilize ride-sharing services or public transportation.
• Call a trusted friend or family member for a ride.
