Pride Festival Kicks Off With Flag Raising In Doylestown
Throughout June, the pride flags will fly above the Bucks County seat and borough hall as the LGTBQ+ community celebrates Pride Month.

DOYLESTOWN, PA - To kick off Pride Month in Doylestown, Progressive Pride flags were hoisted into place on Sunday in the courtyard of the Bucks County Administration building and at Broad Commons Park at the Doylestown Borough Hall.
“I have stood under a lot of Pride flags over the years, but this year feels different,” said Marlene Pray, the director and founder of Planned Parenthood's Rainbow Room, a center for LGBTQ+ youth offering weekly education, advocacy and recreational programs in Doylestown and Langhorne for youth ages 10 to 21. “This year, we raise the Pride flag not just in celebration, but in defiance because across the country there are voices growing louder who want to silence us, laws being passed that seek to erase us, bullies trying to overpower us, but never will. Books being banned. Healthcare denied. Classrooms censored, but let me be clear. We refuse to disappear.

“And every time we raise this flag, we are saying to queer youth that you belong. You are powerful. You are not alone,” Pray continued. “You can pass your laws. You can ban our books. But we are still here. Our joy is political. Our love is revolutionary. And our survival is non-negotiable. To every LGTBQ+ youth across our community, this flag is for you. We are building a world that includes you, protects you and celebrates you. And we will not stop until that world is real.”
Throughout June, the intersex inclusive progressive pride flags will fly above the Bucks County seat and borough hall as the LGTBQ+ community celebrates the county’s diverse community.
The kickoff was organized by Discover Doylestown, Doylestown Pride, Doylestown Borough and the Rainbow Room and launches a month-long celebration of gay, trans and lesbian pride with movies at the County Theatre, an open mic night, and music, all culminating with a Pride Festival Block Party at the end of the month.
After raising the flag above the county’s administration building, Desis Of Doylestown joined with the LGBTQ+ community to share a part of its Holi celebration with members of the LGBTQ+ community by splashing each other with a rainbow of color.

According to Michael Kendrick from Discover Doylestown, the month ahead will be packed with events and activities including movies at the County Theatre, a music festival, and more all culminating with the biggest Pride Festival to date on East State Street.
