LAHASKA, PA — The first signs of fall are right around the corner, with scarecrows set to take over Peddler’s Village early next month. The Scarecrows in the Village event, one of the earliest signals of autumn in the area, will return for its 42nd year starting Sept. 6.

The annual display will showcase more than 100 larger-than-life scarecrows created by area residents and organizations through Oct. 30 at the Lahaska shopping village. This year’s categories include: Traditional, Quite the Character, Thrills with Chills, Myth & Lore, Upcycled Crow, Pink Out! and Kids Only! scarecrows.

Peddler’s Village guests will have from Sept. 6 through Oct. 11 to vote for their favorites, giving them five weeks to choose winners from each category. Organizers will be on the lookout for new scarecrows over the next two weeks, encouraging locals to register theirs for display by Sept. 1. Scarecrows must be dropped off at Peddler’s Village between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sept. 5.

The 42nd annual Scarecrows in the Village display will also feature several festive weekend events, with live entertainment and children’s activities on Sept. 11-12, Sept. 18 and Sept. 25.

Guests can also learn how to make their own scarecrow, with multiple workshops on each of those days. Peddler’s Village will supply step-by-step instructions and all necessary materials for $35 per scarecrow. Up to six people can work on each scarecrow during the workshops, according to the release. Fall-themed food and drinks will be on the menu at the Water Wheel Food Tent and restaurants throughout Peddler’s Village, according to organizers.
