Supervisor Cited At Mask Rally Should Resign, Bucks Residents Say
A New Britain Township supervisor was cited for harassment after police said she hit a woman on the head with a "Masks Save Lives" sign.

NEW BRITAIN TOWNSHIP, PA — A New Britain Township official is facing calls to resign after she was allegedly involved in an altercation during a July 27 event urging the Central Bucks School District to require masks for the upcoming school year.
A video of the incident posted by the Reopen Bucks County group appears to show township Supervisor Cynthia Jones holding a “Masks Save Lives” sign in front of two women before hitting one on the head with the sign, as first reported by Chris Ullery of the Bucks County Courier Times.
Jones then appears to follow the woman around as she tries to take photographs of the event.

Masking in schools has been a hot-button issue throughout the region for much of the past year. The debate has grown more intense in recent months, after the Central Bucks School District board voted in June to no longer require students to wear masks inside for the final week of the 2020-21 school year.

The school board voted 5-3 on July 27 to continue its masks-optional policy for the 2021-22 school year. The board’s vote came on the same day the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended vaccinated Americans resume wearing masks inside in certain circumstances due to the more contagious delta variant of the coronavirus.
Local doctors held their news conference before the board’s vote, urging members to adopt a stronger health and safety plan that requires masks to be worn inside Central Bucks School District buildings.
Protesters descended on the news conference within minutes, shouting insults and conspiracy theories at those speaking during the event, the Bucks County Courier Times reports.
The Reopen Bucks County group is encouraging residents to attend New Britain Township Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Monday to call for Jones’ resignation.
