Trial Begins For Bucks Co. Man Accused Of Killing Temple Police Officer

The man is accused of shooting and killing the officer during a struggle in North Philadelphia in Feb. 2023.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The trial of a Buckingham man accused of killing an on-duty Temple University police sergeant in 2023 is scheduled to begin this week in Philadelphia with jury selection.

Miles Pfeffer, who was 18 at the time of the killing, is charged with murder, murder of a law enforcement officer, robbery, carjacking, possession of an instrument of crime, and related offenses in the killing of Temple University Police Officer Christopher Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald was on patrol on Feb. 18, 2023, when he encountered Pfeffer while investigating an incident near the border of Temple’s campus. Pfeffer is alleged to have shot Officer Fitzgerald in the head, killing him, during a struggle.

Pfeffer is also alleged to have attempted to rob Officer Fitzgerald of his gun and to have gone through his pockets while the officer was lying on the ground, fatally wounded. Pfeffer is further alleged to have committed a carjacking a short time after, close to the location of the officer’s death.

Pfeffer was later apprehended by the U.S. Marshals at a property in Buckingham Township.
