Warrington Firefighters Battled Massive Abington Building Fire

More than 70 fire companies responded to the scene from Montgomery County and from the Philadelphia region.

WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Warrington Fire Company No. 1 was among 70 companies from the Philadelphia region that battled a massive building fire at SPS Technologies in Abington Township on Monday evening and on Tuesday.

According to its social media postings, Warrington firefighters responded to the scene Monday evening on a second alarm to assist the Weldon Fire Company at the warehouse at 301 Highland Road where flames were breaching through the roof of the building and multiple explosions could be heard inside the structure.

Tower 29 from Warrington was one of three additional tower ladders called in to help fight the fire with elevated master stream operations.

Rescue 29 from Warrington was dispatched to cover Abington Township from Station 100 before being called into the scene on the 4th alarm.

The fire broke out at 9:35 p.m. Monday at SPS Technologies, 301 Highland Ave. in Jenkintown. The company is a supplier of fasteners and fittings for the aerospace industry.

Around 10 a.m. on Tuesday officials announced that the fire had been contained but was smoldering. Fire crews, however, were called back to the scene following another explosion inside the building Tuesday morning.
