Warrington Man Charged With Child Rape

WARRINGTON, PA — A 21-year-old local man is facing a host of charges after police in Montgomery County say he had a sexual relationship with an underaged individual.

Edwin Arist Perez, of Warrington, was arrested on July 26 after Abington Township police officers intercepted what they say was an attempt by Perez to meet the minor for sex.

The Abington Township Police Department said the investigation began when family members of the child contacted authorities after they discovered inappropriate content and messages on the minor's cell phone.

Detectives began an investigation and were able to obtain evidence to show that Perez had been meeting with the minor for sex, according to a police department news release.

Abington Police told Patch that the victim is 12 years old.

Perez went to an agreed upon location on the early afternoon of July 26 to meet the minor for what he thought would be a sexual tryst, but he was instead taken into custody by Abington officers without incident, according to police.

Abington police say Perez is facing numerous criminal charges, including rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, sexual abuse of children, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of minors, along with other charges.

State court records show that Perez was arraigned on July 27 by Magisterial District Court Judge Juanita Price, who set bail at $500,000 cash.

Records show Perez was unable to post bail and he was remanded into confinement at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled for Perez.

The criminal docket sheet in the case shows a total list of 35 criminal charges that have been lodged against Perez. Additional charges to those outlined by police include charges relating to photography/film/computer child pornography.
