Warwick Police on Lookout for 'Suspicious Person' Approaching Children

Officers are on the lookout for a man who approached two children last week. No crimes have been committed, but witnesses did not recognize the man.

Warwick police are looking for a 'suspicious person' who spoke to two children last Thursday, according to a statement released by the department. The release stresses that no crime has been committed, and there could be an innocent explanation for the encounters.

Police describe the man as a white male, about 5-feet, 10-inches to 6 feet tall. He is in his late 20s to early 30s, with very short, gray, receding hair. He has short facial hair, also gray. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants. In both instances when he was seen, he was wearing work boots.

According to the report, on Thursday, April 4, at about 4 p.m., a child in the 2200 block of Devin Lane in the Ridings Development reported that the man approached him in the yard and asked the child to help him look for his dog. The child's parents saw the man, who left before the parents could confront him.

Also on Thursday, police say, a second neighbor saw a similar looking man talking to his daughter by the street. This neighbor approached the man and spoke to him. The man identified himself as "Dan," and said he was in the area to paint another neighbor's house. (No neighbors having their houses painted could be found.)

During this encounter, the man had a medium sized white dog with him. None of the witnesses recognized the man, and didn't know him from the neighborhood. No one saw him in a car, and no one has been able to associate a car with him.
