'Million Dollar Quartet' Coming to State Theatre

Tony-winning musical features the songs of Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley.

Johnny Cash. Jerry Lee Lewis. Carl Perkins. Elvis Presley. You could probably make a musical from any of their song books.

But Million Dollar Quartet, which comes to the State Theatre next month, uses hits from all four of these music icons.

Set on one day in 1956, the Tony-winning musical tells how "Sam Phillips, the 'Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll' who was responsible for launching the careers of each icon, gathered the four legendary musicians at the Sun Records storefront studio in Memphis for the first and only time," the theater said in a news release. "The resulting evening became known as one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll jam sessions in history."

The show features songs such as  “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Ring of Fire,” “That’s All Right,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “See Ya Later, Alligator,” “Fever,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and “Hound Dog."

Showtime is 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Tickets are $55-60, and can be purchased at the theater box office at 453 Northampton St. in Easton, by calling 1-800-999-STATE, 610-252-3132 or online at www.statetheatre.org
