1. A new era in Northampton County government: Zrinski, commissioners take office (wfmz.com) — Northampton County’s new executive, Tara Zrinski, has taken office in Easton and is already outlining plans on budgets, pensions, open space, and Gracedale’s future. With a reshaped, Democrat-heavy county council and only one Republican member, upcoming decisions at the Easton government center could affect taxes, employee pay, and services countywide.
   

2. Penn Pump dam removal, turf fields are part of Bushkill Creek greenway's draft plan (lehighvalleylive.com) — Palmer Township is close to finalizing a Bushkill Creek Greenway plan that could remove the aging dam at Penn Pump Park and add synthetic turf fields at Mill Race Park. The township hired Easton-based firm Omnes to shape the 39-page proposal, which aims to reduce flooding and improve recreation. Residents will have another chance to weigh in before supervisors vote this spring.
   

3. Employee charged in alleged stealing of $17K from Slate Belt tobacco shop (lehighvalleylive.com) — An Easton resident is facing felony theft charges after police say an employee at Pen Argyl Tobacco Market was accused of taking thousands of dollars over several months. Investigators allege more than $17,000 was stolen and sent overseas. The defendant is being held in Northampton County Prison and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing to determine if the case proceeds to county court.
   

4. Parkland girls basketball off to a strong start with a difficult stretch on the horizon (wfmz.com) — Parkland’s girls basketball team is gearing up to face Easton next week in a tough four-game stretch against opponents with a combined 35-10 record. The Trojans, 8-3 and defending District 11 champs, are leaning on their deep bench and strong defense while working to cut down on fouls before the postseason arrives.
