When is Intermodal Construction Going to Start?

Easton City Council approves funding for new city hall/transportation center project.

Construction on Easton's intermodal center could begin next week, according to published reports.

Easton City Council voted this week to approve contracts with builders on the $26 million project, which will include a new 375-space parking deck, some commercial space, a LANTA terminal and—eventually—a new city hall.

Work by contractor Wilmer Schultz Inc. of Emmaus can begin as soon as Monday, according to the Express-Times.

The project is being funded by a mix of state, federal and city dollars, including a 15-year, $17 million bond the city floated Wednesday.

City officials held a groundbreaking for the project in March, but held off construction through the spring and summer in part because the property served as excess parking during the busier summer months.
