Woman Cashed Fake Checks, Police Say

An Easton woman is accused of cashing two counterfeit checks at the Walmart in Lower Nazareth Township in December, according to court papers.

Theresa Mulhearn, 45, of 700 Walnut St., allegedly cashed the fake checks—each for $397—on Dec. 16, according to a complaint filed by Colonial Regional Police.

The printing on the checks indicated that they came from Express Healthcare Services from Reading, but the account and routing numbers belonged to a different business—Interim Health Care of Blakely in Lackawanna County, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The owner of Interim Health Care told police that Mulhearn did not work for him nor was there any reason why she would have received a check from his company, the affidavit said.

Mulhearn was charged with forgery—a second-class felony, theft and receiving stolen property. She was arraigned Monday before District Judge James Barner of Lower Nazareth Township and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
