Agricultural Lab Makes First Pittsburgh Stop at Edgewood Elementary
Students have a chance to experience "Agriculture on Wheels" this week.
Edgewood Elementary students are the very first group in the Greater Pittsburgh Area to be paid a visit by the Mobile Ag Ed Science Lab, a traveling trailer filled with information and activities provided by the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.
The 40-foot trailer holds 12 different workstations with equipment and supplies. Workshops led by instructors will go on throughout this week in the Edgewood Elementary parking lot.
During the workshops, students work together to solve problems, form a hypothesis, conduct an experiment and collect data. The experiments are designed for grades three through seven.

“While agriculture is Pennsylvania’s leading industry, many of today’s students don’t make the connection between agriculture and the food on their table,” an informational brochure stated. “Agriculture, including all involved in the food and fiber chain, employs one out of five Pennsylvanians. The continued health of this industry is paramount to the social, economic and environmental fiber of our existence.”
