Edgewood Police: Parent Yells at Principal, Woman Found with Heroin, Campaign Sign Stolen

The following are reports taken by Edgewood police this week.

Oct. 28

  • Criminal mischief—Christopher Harper reported that someone went along Edgewood Avenue and stole copper wire from the light poles.
  • Police assisted on a medical call when a man called in with abdominal pain.
  • A hit and run was reported involving a parked car overnight on West Hutchinson.
  • Police received a call of disorderly conduct from after parent Tanika Abram screamed at Principal Janet Carter, using obscene language in front of students and staff. Abram was charged with disorderly conduct.
  • Police assisted with a two-car accident at Edgewood and Maple avenues.
  • Police arrested Matthew Abdelhah after a traffic stop when he become verbally abusive to the officers. He was first issued a citation and told to leave. Then, he threatened the police.
  • An abandoned car involved in a hit and run was found left in the middle of the road on East Swissvale Avenue.
  • A suspicious vehicle was reported on Greendale Avenue. Police found a man sleeping there and told him to leave.

Oct. 29

  • police assisted Wilkinsburg officers with a driving under the influence arrest after Dwain Grier had a reported .196 percent blood alcohol content after a breath test.
  • Edgewood police assisted state police on the Parkway West after an ambulance driver reported that a woman was walking along the side of the highway, visibly intoxicated. Police found that she had bundles of heroin. police assisted with a search at the station, and she attempted to hide the bundles from police.
  • Police handled a parking complaint on Elm Street, and later on South Braddock Avenue.
  • Police arrested Edward Schmidgal for driving under the influence after he almost hit a Pittsburgh City Fire Department truck at the parkway ramp. Police reported he had a .201 percent blood alcohol content.

  • Police found a Coach purse and took a report of it being lost.

Oct. 31

  • Edgewood police assisted state police with an accident on the parkway.
  • Police took a report of criminal mischief after several residents had their car tires slashed. For more information,
  • Edgewood police assisted Swissvale officers with a pursuit after a traffic stop on Roslyn. A man was then taken into custody near Memorial Park.

  • A dispute was reported at the at Edgewood Towne Center. Ex-employee and shareholder Ben Gordon wanted to get several TV’s from the restaurant, which he said are his. He left before police arrived.
  • A suspicious person was reported on Dewey. He was soliciting magazines and asked to leave.

Nov. 2

  • , reported that her campaign sign near Pennwood and Race was stolen.
  • A hit and run involving a rental car was reported on South Braddock Avenue.

Nov. 3

  • Criminal mischief was reported after two cars had their tires slashed overnight.
  • Edgewood police asissted Wilkinsburg police with a driving under the influence arrest.
