New Bike Trail Section to Washington, D.C. Opens

Event planned Friday at The Waterfront to showcase new trail section.

Steel Valley Matters in Homestead will be celebrating the new trail connection to Washington, D.C. at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, at the Whitaker Bridge ramp.

A new, three-mile section of the Great Allegheny Passage will be opened for trail use. This section includes two new bridges and the scenic former U. S. Steel coke gas pipeline road.

The new section, which begins at Grant Avenue in Duquesne and connects to the Waterfront in Munhall, makes it possible for a bicyclist to travel 335 miles between Point State Park and Washington, D.C.
