Patch Picks: Swissvale Mayor & Police Guest Bartend at Fundraiser Saturday

Don't miss this chance to help raise money for Swissvale's Community Days.

It’s not every weekend you can walk into a local bar and be served your drinks by the Swissvale Police Department.

But this Saturday is your lucky night – Swissvale’s finest along with Mayor Deneen Swartzwelder will be serving the drinks at from 8 p.m. to midnight, with all of the tips going toward the local Community Days event.

A basket will be up for raffle that night as well, along with jello shots, hot sausage and pizza. All of the proceeds raised at the event will help fund the fireworks show and more at Swissvale's Community Days, held July 1 and 2.

“We will have some firemen there, volunteers and some of the borough workers will be helping out,” Swartzwelder said.  “It’s just a chance for everyone to gather and help support Community Days – it’s a small community event.”

Swartzwelder also noted that those serving behind the bar add a special factor to the event.

“When can you have your Swissvale Police Department serving you? The mayor and the police—we never get to be out serving people together. It should be fun,” she said.

This is the first year a guest bartending event has been held in Swissvale. , a local mother and bartender at Pub in the Park, suggested the idea at a Community Days Committee meeting.

“The price of our fireworks went up because we are having it closer to July 4th, so we need to raise more money,” Swartzwelder said.

New red, white and blue t-shirts will be for sale for $10 at the pub that night as well, which state, “I love Swissvale,” with a heart.
