Chesterbrook Academy Preschools in Lancaster Release 3,000 Ladybugs
Students celebrated Earth Day and protecting the environment by releasing more than 3,000 beneficial bugs into their schoolyards
On April 22, students at Chesterbrook Academy Preschool on Estelle Drive and Chesterbrook Academy Preschool at College Hill in Lancaster explored a bug’s life in celebration of Earth Day as they released more than 3,000 ladybugs throughout their schoolyards and back into the environment on plants, flowers and trees. Students were dressed for the occasion in the likeness of ladybugs, wearing red and black clothing and antennae. In addition to the ladybug release, students made ladybug-themed crafts and participated in a "reuse it" activity by bringing items to school that can be used in classrooms from home.
Leading up to Earth Day, students learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs. Chesterbrook Academy teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at an early age.
