Alice G. (Steckel) Ruth, 98, Formerly of Bethlehem [Obituary]

Alice G. (Steckel) Ruth passed away on Friday, Aug. 16.

Alice G. (Steckel) Ruth, 98, formerly of Bethlehem, passed away on Friday evening, Aug. 16, 2013, at Elderwood (Birchwood) in Liverpool, N.Y. She was the daughter of E.D. Steckel and Hattie Roth Steckel. Mrs. Ruth graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1932 and was a typist at Bethlehem Steel. At College Hill Moravian Church, she was a member of the choir, Women’s Fellowship, a sacristan and secretarial assistant. She was well-known for her cooking and baking, especially sugar cakes and sticky buns. Lloyd and Alice, married for 60 years, took many trips across the country in their travel trailer, visiting relatives and friends, and bringing back souvenirs for their grandchildren, many of which were Christmas ornaments that were saved so that each child received a nice box of them for their own Christmas trees when they grew up. 

SURVIVORS

She is survived by son Robert (Donna) of Liverpool, their children Renee (Stephen) Cole of Vail, Ariz. and their daughter Sara Cole of Tampa, Fla., and Karen (Rob) Sgarlata of Cicero, N.Y.; son Ronald (Judy), their children Becky (Shaan) Blanchard, their children Julia and Aaron, Thomas (Kim Walker), and Amanda (Justin) Salazar, their children Liam and Cameron, all of Colorado. She is also survived by sisters Ginny (Ed) Kroll, Betty Leibig, and Nancy (Ken) Sutton, all of Pa.; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Lloyd W. Ruth in 1998 and three sisters: Eleanor Hines, Janet Stein Getz and Laura Goerner.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at College Hill Moravian Church, 72 W. Laurel St., Bethlehem. The calling hour will be followed by the service at noon. The interment will conclude services at Nisky Hill Cemetery, Bethlehem. Arrangements are by the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Hellertown.
