Archibald John Hackman, 91, of Hellertown [OBITUARY]

Archibald John Hackman, 91, of Hellertown, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013.

Archibald John Hackman, 91, of Hellertown, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 at his daughter’s residence in Polk Township. He was the husband of the late Anna (Meilinger) Hackman, who died in 1974. Archibald was born in Bethlehem on July 31, 1921 to the late Paul Edgar and Mary E. (Marculics) Hackman Boyle. He was raised at the Wiley House in Fountain Hill from the ages of eight to 16. Archibald served our country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a machinist at Hellertown Manufacturing, having served as shop steward for many years, and retiring in 1980. He was a past president of an AFL-CIO labor union chapter. Archibald was an avid sportsman, bowler and golfer.

SURVIVORS

He is survived by his daughter: Shirley Johnson, with whom he resided; siblings: Elaine Stevens of Lawrenceville, Ga., Louise Yons of Emmaus, Donald of Ulysses, Floyd of Lehighton, Linda Culpepper of Emmaus, Robert of Leithsville, Lower Saucon Township and Leonard of Allentown; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Archibald was predeceased by a wife; a son, John Robert, who died in 1975; brothers: Harold, Richard and Charles, all of whom served with Archibald during World War II, with Charles dying in the war.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 9 to 10am Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the memorial service at 10am. The interment will conclude services at Union Cemetery of Hellertown and will be followed by a luncheon at the Meadows.
