Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast say a Bethlehem man who was traveling westbound on I-78 in Lower Saucon Township struck a buck Saturday morning at mile marker 64.4, near the Hickory Hill Road overpass.
According to a police news release, the 36-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2005 Chevy Tahoe when the buck and a doe began to travel north across the road shortly after 9:30 a.m.
The SUV collided with the buck "at about its front end driver's side area" but did not strike the doe, police said.
A woman and two children were passengers in the Tahoe at the time of the accident, but no injuries were reported by them or the driver, authorities said.
The Tahoe was towed from the spot where it came to rest—about a tenth of a mile west of the collision point—by Sacks Towing, they added.
There have been numerous recent accidents involving deer on I-78 in Lower Saucon Township.
