Duck Derby Draws Crowd to Farmers' Market

There was a lot of fuss over some little yellow ducks in Hellertown last weekend. But it was all for a good cause.

That good cause was Saucon Valley Relay for Life, which raised thousands for the American Cancer Society with its second annual Duck Derby at the in .

Supporters agreed to sponsor one or more numbered rubber ducks in exchange for the opportunity to win one of dozens of donated prizes (see below for a complete list of the winners), and helped raise nearly $5,000 for the fight against cancer.

Many local businesses donated prizes or helped support the event in other ways. For example, 4 Winds Concrete of Bethlehem sent one of its concrete mixer trucks to help dump the ducks into the waters of the Saucon Creek, much to the delight of spectators both young and old.

Live music provided by DJ Stevie Blatz helped keep the atmosphere lively, Kerry Kemmerer emceed the race from within the creek, and many visitors took the time to browse the offerings of farmers' market vendors.

Relay for Life co-chair Carol Schneider, who helped orchestrate the derby, called it "a success" for her organization.

The following list of winners is ordered according to the order in which the ducks crossed the finish line.

In total, about 1,600 yellow duckies "competed" in the race.
