Hellertown's Boil Water Advisory Lifted
As of Thursday mid-afternoon, the restrictions on water consumption announced by the Hellertown Borough Authority on Tuesday have been lifted.

Local officials announced Thursday afternoon that the boil water advisory in place for Hellertown Borough Authority customers since Tuesday has been lifted.
The Borough Authority said Tuesday that the advisory--which was the result of an equipment breakdown--would remain in effect for "several days" at a minimum.
According to the notice from the authority issued Thursday, "the results of system sampling and analysis over two consecutive days by a certified laboratory have confirmed that there are no harmful bacteria in the water."

The piece of equipment that malfunctioned is critical to the continuous disinfection of the public water supply provided by the authority, which serves households in both the borough and parts of Lower Saucon Township.
Local customers were asked to boil their drinking water and use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth and some other needs while the advisory was in effect.

"The customers of Hellertown have been very cooperative over the past two days while the notice was in place and we thank everyone for their understanding," Hellertown Borough Authority administrator Glenn Higbie said in an email.
Higbie also requested that authority customers who have not already done so provide an up-to-date emergency phone number, which will be kept on file and called by the authority's automated rapid response system in the event of a similar problem in the future.
He said that news of the ban's lifting would be disseminated via the rapid response system Thursday afternoon.
Customers with questions or concerns should contact the authority's main office at 610-838-8051 during regular business hours.
