Main Street Fire Quickly Knocked Down

A fire that broke out on the first floor of an apartment building at 315 Main Street in Hellertown was quickly brought under control Wednesday night.

The blaze was initially reported as a working fire in a three-story building shortly after 7:30pm, but within minutes an updated Breaking News Network alert was issued confirming that "ventilation and overhaul (were) in progress" at the scene.

Hellertown resident Randy Yardumian--who is a member of a fire department in another jurisdiction--captured photos of the response and reported that the fire was knocked down by two members of Dewey Fire Co. No. 1 who were nearby when it was discovered.

The building that was affected by the brief blaze is located just north of Sure Shine Car Wash, near the intersection of Main Street and Magnolia Road.

Along with Dewey Fire Company, Se-Wy-Co Fire Company also responded, along with local police and the Red Cross.

A resident of the apartment building said the Red Cross offered assistance to the people whose apartment was damaged by the blaze.

In a Facebook comment, Krystl Slifer praised the rapid response of Dewey Fire Company and police, which she said she believes "is what saved the building."
