Man Cited for Hauling Hazardous Materials, Police Say

Kenneth Zurbano, 21, of the 200 block of Durham Street, Hellertown, was cited for allegedly transporting heating oil in an open container and asbestos-wrapped pipes.

A Hellertown man was cited for disorderly conduct, after he was allegedly found to be hauling heating oil in an open container and "multiple pipes which were wrapped in asbestos," borough police said in a press release.

According to police, Kenneth Zurbano, 21, of the 200 block of Durham Street, was stopped June 17 at Topstar Exxon, 1570 Main St., after an officer "detected a strong odor of heating fuel oil in the area of the 1500 block of Main Street."

Police said the smell was determined to be coming from Zurbano's truck, where the heating oil and pipes were subsequently observed.

Police said an environmental technologies crew was brought in to remove the heating oil, while an asbestos removal crew was brought in to remove the pipes.

Zurbano was cited because "his actions created a hazardous condition which served no legitimate purpose," police said.
