Man's Drowning Was Accidental, Police Say

The March death of Stephen P. Lockard in Hellertown's Grist Mill Park has been ruled accidental.

The March death of Steven P. Lockard was an accident, Hellertown Police announced Wednesday.

Lockard, a 38-year-old Allentown resident, disappeared from the borough's Grist Mill Park on March 28. His body was recovered from one of the park's two ponds five days later.

In a news release, police said the Northampton County Coroner's Office has classified Lockard's death as an accidental drowning.

"Hellertown Police suspect no foul play in the death," the release stated.

At the time of his disappearance, police said "Lockard is believed to suffer from a mental disability, however is not perceived as a threat to the public."

Lockard had ties to the Hellertown area, having graduated from Saucon Valley High School.
