Police: DUI Driver Dozed While Alarms Blared

Lower Saucon Township Police say Rafael Castano Jr., of Allentown, was arrested for DUI in the police department parking lot after he was found "unconscious" in his vehicle Nov. 11.

An Allentown man who was allegedly driving while intoxicated picked the wrong place to stop for a snooze Nov. 11, according to Lower Saucon Township Police.

In a press release issued Dec. 5, police said Rafael Castano Jr., of the 800 block of South Jefferson Street, was found passed out in his vehicle at 2:20am outside the Lower Saucon Police Department building.

Police said their attention was drawn to Castano's vehicle because its lights were on and "interior warning alarms" were sounding.

"Castano remained unconscious with all alarms sounding" and continued to sleep as an officer tried to wake him from outside the vehicle, police noted.

When the officer opened the door to Castano's vehicle, police said he "was met with an extremely stronge (sic) odor of an alcoholic beverage."

Once Castano was roused to a state of semi-alertness, he "had no idea where he was or where he came from, stating at one point he just left his brother in Chicago," according to authorities.

Castano allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for DUI.

Police said he was determined to have a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .19 percent.
