Robert J. Newcomb, 83, Worked for General Electric [Obituary]
Robert J. Newcomb of Lower Macungie Township died peacefully Monday Oct. 14, 2013.

Robert J. Newcomb, 83 of Lower Macungie Township, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at the Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township. He was the husband of Evelyn H. (Rick) Newcomb. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Nov. 3, 1929 to the late Beldon K. and Barbara (Jourdan) Newcomb. Robert served our country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a medical technician, and briefly as his company’s information and education officer just prior to his discharge in 1953. After leaving the military he went on to hold several financial management positions in New York and Pennsylvania. In 1970, he accepted a position with the General Electric Financial Services Group and held several management positions. After completing his MA in personnel administration, he went on to become Manager of Corporate Training and Development, where he developed, produced and taught programs in management, sales, insurance and career building. He was also a member of the New Jersey and national chapters of the American Society for Training & Development prior to retiring in 1990. He was also an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Durham, where he served as its youth director and a member of its church council for a number of years.
SURVIVORS
In addition to his wife; son: Robert C. husband of Christine of Cynthiana, Ky., daughter: Lynn M. Leichliter wife of Tim H. of Upper Black Eddy; sister: Laura C. Ahrens, of Middle Village, N.Y.; sister -in-Law: Elfriede C. of Mineloa, N.Y.; grandchildren: Travis, Michelle, Justin, Casey-Jo, Jamie, Kelly and Clayton; great-grandchildren: Dakota, Caleb, Morgan, Lexi, Braedyn, Jayse, Tyler, Saige and Faith. He is also survived by his “church family.” Robert was predeceased by son: Glenn W. who passed away in September 2013; and a brother: Kenneth M. who passed away in November 2012.

SERVICE
Family and friends are invited to call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown, and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at the church, 821 Durham Road, Durham. The Saturday morning calling hour will be followed by the service at 10:30 a.m. at the church. The interment will conclude services at Durham Cemetery.
