Route 309 Closed by Construction Equipment Accident
Drivers in Upper Saucon Township were detoured because of a Route 309 closure as crews worked to remove a piece of construction equipment that toppled down an embankment.

UPDATE: At 7:39pm PennDOT reported that all lanes on Route 309 north had reopened following today's equipment accident in Upper Saucon Township.
UPDATE - At 5:45pm PennDOT was reporting that one lane of Route 309 northbound was open. However, motorists should still expect delays in the area.
Route 309 north was closed Wednesday afternoon for removal of a piece of construction equipment from an embankment.

The equipment toppled over and crews were called in to upright and remove it, according to PennDOT. This is related to the ongoing PA 309 Betterment project in Upper Saucon Township and Coopersburg Borough.
As of mid-afternoon, passenger vehicles were being detoured on Passer Road and Main Street. Trucks are being detoured on Fairmont and Main streets.

The accident resulted in a small amount of diesel fuel being spilled into , and hazardous materials crews have been called to clean up the spill, according to WFMZ.
